This festival allows local Brazilians who have made St. Louis their home the opportunity to share their pride for their home country with family, friends and the entire community.
Brasil Day has been successful in other cities around the country including New York, San Diego, Chicago, Seattle, DC, and Los Angeles. As St. Louis continues to compete in attracting industries, we need to attract people to our region and that includes celebrating with foreign born residents and transplants; understanding and embracing their cultures.
Once a year Brasil Day STL Festival in Missouri-USA, will celebrate along with our local Brazilian community through performing arts, food and cultural experiences. This time of year holds great significance for Brazilians as September 7th marks our Independence Day.
According to a recent economic study, 4.5% of the population in St. Louis are foreign born. Of the St. Louis foreign born residents, the majority tend to be scientists, professionals and managers, and are 44% more likely to have at least a college education and 130% more likely to have an advanced degree.
Other booming and successful metros in the top 20 average four to five times the number of foreign board residents. If St. Louis wishes to further cultivate clusters of biotech, financial services, healthcare or information systems, it must also attract the best talents to complement our existing workforce. Because immigrants often have technical and scientific skills in these areas, they should be part of the region’s strategy to build on our strengths in these occupations.
We hope you will participate in this event and help launch it for the future. Last year was the first Brasil Day STL-MO Fest and we had an attendance over 800. With your support and the support of our other corporate sponsors, we anticipate we will have well over 1,000 people in attendance.
We appreciate your consideration of our request. Please contact me with any questions. Moacyr Marchini (314) 477-6226.
